CLOUD VPS guides
How to use a VGNCloud VPS. Root, the CLOUD panel, and what the buttons actually do. Specs and prices stay on the VPS page so they cannot go stale here.
Getting started
First login: CLOUD panel and SSH
Sign in to the VGNCloud CLOUD panel, finish setup, and SSH in as root. Password by email, or paste your own key. Helsinki VPS, ready in about two minutes.
How to choose a VPS plan
Pick a VGNCloud VPS without fake benchmarks. Start from memory, guess small, move up later. S1, M2 and L4 are named on the /vps page with live specs.
First month on a VPS
A first-month VPS checklist: SSH, updates, the panel firewall, backups you take yourself, and what not to postpone.
Upgrade a VPS plan
Upgrade a VPS to a larger plan from billing. No downgrade: the disk cannot shrink. Extra CPU and RAM after a reboot. Live sizes stay on the VPS page.
The machine
Reinstall, delete, or cancel
Three different buttons. Reinstall wipes the disk and keeps the address. Delete destroys the machine and does not stop billing. Cancel on the storefront stops billing and removes the machine.
VPS firewall in the CLOUD panel
Edit VPS firewall rules outside the guest so they hold when the machine does not. Default ACCEPT. Presets for SSH, web and ping. Outbound SMTP stays closed unless we open it.
VPS backups: we do not take them yet
VGNCloud does not snapshot or back up your VPS. Treat the disk as yours. Copy data off before a reinstall, a delete, or an unpaid invoice.
VPS console when SSH will not do
Open a browser console in the CLOUD panel and sign in on the VPS itself when a firewall rule or sshd blocks SSH.
IPv4 on a VPS, and why it still matters
Every VGNCloud VPS has its own IPv4. DNS points at it, mail and games expect it, and it survives a reinstall. Shared hosting does not work that way.
Root access on a VPS, explained
Root means the machine is yours: packages, ports, users, the lot. Web hosting is a shared box with a panel. Pick the one that matches the job.
NVMe vs SATA for a VPS or site
VGNCloud VPS disks are NVMe. That is the storage, not a benchmark. When SATA is fine, and when a database will feel the difference.
VPS traffic: what counts, what you pay
Only outbound traffic is metered. Incoming is free. Go over and you are billed per extra terabyte. The machine is not throttled. Numbers live on the VPS page.
Linux VPS with root access
A Linux VPS with root is a machine you run. Debian or Ubuntu, your packages, your ports. Specs and images stay on the VPS page.
Cancel vs delete a VPS
Delete in the panel destroys the machine and keeps the bill. Cancel on the storefront stops billing and removes the machine. Honest, no scare copy.
KVM VPS
A KVM VPS is a real virtual machine, not a container. Root, a dedicated IPv4, NVMe. Live plans stay on the VPS page.
Unmanaged Linux VPS
An unmanaged Linux VPS: you are root, we are not. We provision the machine. You patch it. Live plans stay on the VPS page.
The company
Choose a product
WordPress on a VPS vs web hosting
One-click WordPress on web hosting, or root on a VPS. When the cheaper box is enough, and when you actually need the machine.
When you need a VPS, not shared hosting
Shared hosting is cheaper until you need a port, a daemon, or isolation. A VPS is a machine. Game servers belong on ValueGameNode.
Cheap VPS in the EU
Cheap VPS in the EU that is still a machine: root, a dedicated IPv4, NVMe. Finnish company, EU law. Live prices stay on the VPS page.
VPS for WordPress
When WordPress belongs on a VPS, and when WordPress hosting is enough. You install the stack. Live plans stay on the VPS and WordPress pages.
VPS vs VDS
VPS and VDS are sold as different labels. We sell a virtual machine with root and a dedicated IPv4, not a second SKU called VDS.
VPS for a small business
A virtual server for a small company: when a VPS fits, when web hosting is enough, and what you actually run. Finnish company, EU law.

Ecommerce site hosting
Hosting for a shop site: WooCommerce on WordPress hosting if disk and databases are enough, or a VPS if you need a custom stack. No fake DDoS claim.
WordPress-optimised hosting
What WordPress-optimised hosting actually means here: shared NVMe hosting with one-click install, not a second SKU. Live plans stay on the WordPress page.
