Cancel and delete are different buttons. People press delete when they wanted the bill to stop, and cancel when they only wanted an empty disk. This page is the commercial question: how do I leave. The three-button detail (reinstall included) is reinstall, delete, or cancel. No scare copy. No terms lecture.
Delete in the CLOUD panel
Destroys the virtual machine and its disk. Permanent. Gone: the machine, the disk, the IPv4, the hostname, the firewall rules. Kept: your invoices. Delete does not stop billing. Stripe keeps charging and you have no machine. That is the usual surprise. It is also why this page exists.
Cancel on the storefront
This is vgncloud.com/cancel, not the panel. Immediate cancel stops billing now and removes the machine. No refund for the current period. Cancel at period end keeps the machine until the date shown, then billing stops and the machine is removed. The address then rests before anyone else can have it.
Which one, in one line
- Done paying: cancel on the storefront.
- Want the disk empty but the same address and the same bill: reinstall, not delete.
- Lost the password: reset it. That is not delete.
- Locked out of SSH: console, then fix the rule. Do not cancel as a reboot.
Copy data off first. We do not snapshot the VPS. Backups.
What we will not say
We will not threaten you with a contract. There is no long lock-in on the VPS page. Immediate cancel is allowed. It is also final for the machine and the address. If you only wanted a pause, write to contact before you press either button.
If you buy again later, it is a new machine and a new IPv4. Plans: VPS. The shop window: cloud.
