Two honest products. Web hosting is a shared box with a panel and one-click WordPress. A VPS is a Linux machine with root. The cheaper one is enough for most sites. The machine is for when the panel is in the way.
Buy web hosting when the site is a site
A brochure, a shop that WordPress can carry, a few blogs. You do not want to patch PHP. You do not need a custom daemon. SSL is included. The WordPress hosting page lists the live plans. We do not manage updates on those plans โ WordPress can automate most of that itself. If you want us to run the updates, that is managed hosting, priced separately.
Disk and databases are the real limits. One database is one WordPress install. Pictures fill the disk faster than plugins do. Start small. Moving up later is a panel click, not a rebuild.
Buy a VPS when you need the machine
- A queue, a worker, Redis, or anything that is not โa PHP file in public_htmlโ.
- A custom Nginx or Caddy setup, or a port that shared hosting will not open.
- More than one serious site, and you want them isolated from neighbours.
- You already know how to keep WordPress, PHP and the OS patched.
Root is yours from the first boot. So is the IPv4. Specs and prices stay on the VPS page so this article cannot go stale. First login is in the SSH guide.
Do not buy a VPS to โmake WordPress fasterโ
A neglected VPS is slower and less safe than a tidy shared plan. Caching plugins and a smaller image library beat an idle 4 GB box. If the site is slow today, measure it before you rent a kernel.
A third option that is not a secret SKU
Game servers โ Minecraft, Rust, the rest โ are not a VGNCloud WordPress add-on. They live on ValueGameNode.
If you are still unsure
Write one sentence to contact: what the site does, and roughly how much traffic you expect. We will name web hosting or a VPS plan and say why. No sales call. The cloud catalogue shows everything we actually sell.
