A VPS and web hosting are sold as neighbours. They are not the same product. A VPS is a Linux machine with root. Web hosting is a shared account with a panel. If the job is a website, start on hosting. If the job is a process you wrote, start on a VPS.
What you actually buy
- Web hosting: SFTP, SSL, a control panel, one-click WordPress. You do not patch the kernel. Live plans: web hosting and the WordPress page.
- VPS: root, your own IPv4, NVMe, a guest you run. Specs stay on the VPS page. First hour: CLOUD panel and SSH.

Stay on web hosting
Brochure, blog, a shop WordPress can carry, a few PHP apps. You want ports 80 and 443 and a panel. You do not want to wake up because you forgot apt upgrade. That is most sites. When you need a VPS is the decision page. This page is the comparison.
Buy the virtual machine

WordPress is a special case only in the copy
